A quorum consists of the three voting committee members. Selection of Special Issues will be made by the Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the co-editors. The Chair will strictly enforce this time limit. This will be distributed to members of the Oral Defense Committee to lead to a more productive oral presentation and discussion. The signed form will then be forwarded to the Graduate Office. As soon as all the assessments and rankings from the Readers have been received, the course director reviews them and if necessary calls a meeting of the Committee to discuss the reviews and rankings. The reviewers should have a faculty appointment, but do not have to be a member of the Department of Physiology, although this is preferred.
Typically a Special issue consists of articles which can include both research and review papers. Please note that the peer review process for Special Issue submissions is identical to that of regular submissions to the Journal.

Student research proposal example

If one or more of the members vote "fail" then the student is deemed to have failed the oral component of the course; abstentions are not permitted. Students must begin arranging their oral defense date immediately after receiving their grant reviews and notice to proceed from the Graduate Program Office.

Special issues provide an excellent opportunity to review an addressed topic, examine previously unaddressed aspects, describe what the current state-of-the-art is in the area, propose and develop new approaches, exchange perspectives and encourage new lines of research.
The Oral Defense of the Ph. The Chair may at this time make further inquiries at his or her discretion. Following this meeting, the Graduate Office will distribute the Proposals and related documents to each of the readers assigned by the committee.
